God's Perfect Timing

I think we all know what it is like to put our expectations into a promise, only to be disappointed when the promise never realizes. Perhaps you have had a friend, colleague, or even family member, that promised you something. You even started planning around the promise, only to be disheartened when the it disappeared into thin air, never to be carried out. Promises are only as strong as the person who gives them. Unfortunately many promises remain nothing more than promises. We live in a world where they are easily made, but at times just as easily forgotten... [read on]

What Are You Waiting For?

It appears to me that immediate action is often delayed by future ambition. We dream of doing something important or great at any time other than today. We live our physical lives in the present, but our minds dwell on the future. We are chasing something that we never seem to catch. This can play out in so many areas of life, but can also easily sneak into the Christian experience... [read on]

The Image of the Beast

The 18th of January, 2015 will go down as a historic day for the Papal church. Millions of people gathered to attend a massive outdoor mass in the Philippine capital, Manila. City officials estimated that six million people attended the ceremony or lined the Papal route to Rizal Park. An absolute record for any Papal event! This is all part of a six-day tour Pope Francis is making in Asia... [read on]

Opening the Right Door

I heard the story of a couple that got married and their friends wanted to give them a special gift. They all chipped in and booked a 5 star hotel for their first honeymoon night. This hotel had everything you could imagine. The couple had a preview of the room by seeing some incredible pictures of the place... [read on]

Elias - Our Firstborn

The experience of being a father for the first time is indescribable. Words fail to fully express all my thoughts and emotions connected to this amazing moment. And yet I feel that I need to share some reflections that have been spinning through my mind over the last few days. God is graciously teaching me beautiful lessons about Himself through this experience... [read on]

Homeless, But Not Hopeless

“Some people come into our lives and leave footprints on our hearts and we are never ever the same.” – Flavia Weedn
It was one of those moments. Malik from Somalia introduced himself to me as he walked into the hall where we were getting ready for a healthy cooking class that evening. The students, organizing the local community event, were in full swing, but I had time to talk and so I sat down with Malik... [read on]

Reality Check

As an international speaker, traveling on planes has become a routine. Besides the mundane things that come along with flights, now and then my wife Silvia and I bump into interesting people resulting in interesting conversations about life. Some time ago we checked in for another flight. Silvia got a seat beside a man and it did not take long before they had delved into a conversation about Christianity... [read on]

Holistic Living

“Health and freedom are two things you don’t appreciate until they are gone” – Thomas Jefferson, 3rd US president (1801-1809)
In the health sector today we see a major focus on cure and less attention given to prevention of disease and sickness. In 2005 a fascinating book was written by best selling author Dan Buettner, entitled “The Blue Zones”. The subtitle of the book reads “Lessons for living longer from the people who’ve lived the longest”. Dan takes his readers on a journey as he examines 4 groups of people who experience longevity and vitality in a unique way... [read on]

Humanism's Dead End

It took me a while to find the right title for this article. Yet, finally, “Humanism’s dead end” reflects what has been running through my mind over the last weeks. It began with a sermon. While I can’t and would not want to judge the motives of the presenter that morning, I came away a bit concerned. I thought to myself that something was missing, or to be more precise, someone was missing. The sermon contained some good ideas and prescriptions to good and moral living, but there was no mention of the real source of power to live that new life. Christ was simply left out. The cross was not mentioned. The gospel was absent... [read on]

There Is More Between Heaven and Earth...

Recently a Norwegian newspaper reported the story of a car that slid off the road and tumbled down a sloop barely hitting trees on each side. The reporter went on to say that the driver had “good luck” since he survived the accident without injury. In the same article the reporter used the expression “angel protection” that is commonly used in Norway when things like this happen that are hard to explain. So what is it? Good luck or angel protection?... [read on]

The Bible - What Do You Do With It?

“And in that day seven women shall take hold of one man, saying, we will eat our own food and wear our own apparel, only let us be called by your name, to take away our reproach.” – Isaiah 4:1
I have wondered about the meaning of this cryptic verse. What is Isaiah talking about? Who is he referring to? I am sure his description had something important to say about the times he was living in, but I also think it has something to say about the condition of Christianity today... [read on]

Israel In Bible Prophecy

Today, around the globe, millions are interested in Bible prophecy and have their eyes on Israel. Their attention is fixed on literal Israel and Jerusalem. This is all heated by the never-ending news of strife and unrest in the Middle East. Christians are speaking about a modern state of Israel, a rebuilt Jewish temple, and a Middle East Armageddon. These subjects are discussed in magazines, books, on TV, internet, and seminars. A large number of Christians see a connection between end time Bible prophecy and Israel... [read on]

For Such a Time as This

A Bible book that has really inspired me is the book of Acts with the incredible story of the apostolic movement. Chapter after chapter unfolds as the fresh gospel message makes it’s way through the world despite of countless challenges and stark opposition. A chain of miracles empowered dedicated Spirit filled men and women as they moved forward in faith. Looking at the church today we do not witness the same power and consecration. And yet I believe that in many ways the book of Acts is an unfinished book. Surely there is a record of God’s movement today. Surely His church is still being observed and followed by unseen eyes... 2012 and the End of the World

History has countless examples of people who have proclaimed that the end of the world and return of Jesus Christ is imminent. Perhaps there has never been a stranger messenger than a hen in the English town of Leeds in 1806. It seems that a hen began laying eggs on which the phrase “Christ is coming” was written. As news of this miracle spread, many people became convinced that doomsday was at hand, until a curious local actually watched the hen laying one of the prophetic eggs and discovered someone had hatched a hoax...
